Over the nine years of working as a full-time safari guide I witnessed the most unbelievable sights imaginable but more than that I got to spend time with thousands of guests from all over the world.
I saw how nature soothed my guests. Time spent outdoors had a calming effect on them. By the time they were on their way home they seemed transformed and happier. I understood what guests wanted and needed, and where their travel agents had got it wrong, I knew how I could do better. I used those years as research to build a company of my own. Most importantly, I knew that nature was the ‘medicine’ for many, including myself.
During my time as a guide I witnessed years of rhino poaching which led to the creation of the NGO, Our Horn is NOT Medicine, which funds counter-poaching efforts through ranger training, K-9 units, aerial surveillance, and community upliftment.
I also gained a pivotal mentorship (and friendship) with tracker Richard Khosa who deepened my connection to nature, inspiring me to honour his legacy when he passed away in 2021 by establishing a scholarship fund for local students.
Richard taught me to track, but more than that, he showed me that by observing nature quietly and using my own discernment I could make firm decisions without hesitation.
"Nature will guide you, you just have to listen", Richard would say.
My favourite part of living in the bush is watching the sunrise as the dawn chorus comes to life. At the end of the day, I cherish lying in bed with our son, listening to lions calling and hyenas whoop in the distance.

I'm Lee-Anne, a professional safari guide and travel planner. The African wilderness has always been my sanctuary. Everything that shaped me, that made me whole, was taught by nature. Over nine years as a full-time safari guide, I witnessed unbelievable sightings and saw how time spent outdoors transformed my guests – calming them, inspiring them, and sending them home happier.

I am a passionate geographer with an insatiable love for the outdoors and travel. After earning my honours degree in Physical Geomorphology at UCT, I set off to explore the world, seeking adventure in landscapes both familiar and uncharted.
My journey led me to the heart of Africa’s wild spaces, where I spent six incredible years as a safari guide for a luxury safari company, immersing myself in some of the continent’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations.
In 2019, my path brought me to the Southern African Wildlife College, an inspiring NGO dedicated to empowering people from communities bordering wilderness areas.
Here, I found a deep purpose in conservation and education, helping to bridge the gap between people and nature. What truly stirs my soul is waking up to the rhythm of the bush.
My favourite moments are those spent alone on foot, or taking our son out into the bush to teach him the tracks and signs.
I am a Biokineticist based in Johannesburg, but my heart has always belonged to the African bush. From childhood, I was fortunate to escape into its untamed beauty, and to this day, I return as often as I can.
The bush is more than a place; it is a feeling – an unparalleled calm that soothes the soul, a breath of fresh air that carries away the weight of city life.
My work is client-oriented, both in my own practice and with Breathe Africa, where I focus on every detail to create effortless, confident experiences.
Through Breathe Africa, I get to keep a piece of the bush with me always, sharing in the joy and anticipation of each guest’s safari adventure. It is a privilege to help them step into the wilderness and feel the same deep love I hold for this extraordinary place.
Nothing can compare to the quiet magic of the bush—where the night sky stretches above lions calling in the distance.
