The company aims to responsibly grow its presence in local villages by sharing its passion for Africa’s wildlife and people with every guest. Safari isn’t just fun—it can be an emotional journey too.
By merging Breathe Africa with the projects we manage and support, we expanded our mission, combining conservation with meaningful safari experiences.
First and foremost, we would like to highlight the huge contribution that trackers add to your safari.
The RKTF annually sponsors a student from the Welverdiend community to attend Tracker Academy—a yearlong course that teaches the traditional, spiritual art of tracking.
This practice, which connects individuals to their ancestral roots, is essential not only for enriching safari experiences but also for providing livelihoods to many families.
Despite its deep historical significance, tracking has been in decline over the past 50 years, making efforts to preserve this ancient skill all the more critical in our modern, convenience-driven world.
In 2012, while on safari, Breathe Africa owner Lee-Anne encountered the harsh reality of rhino poaching when she discovered the carcass of a rhino bull they had admired just the evening before.
This event inspired the launch of the OHNM campaign, which aimed to educate safari guests about the growing poaching crisis and garner support for counter-poaching efforts.
OHNM funds the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), which trains rangers using advanced tools and techniques to combat wildlife crime within the Greater Kruger National Park—Breathe Africa’s home.
By December 2025, generous contributions from guests and donors had raised Eleven Million rand to support SAWC’s projects.
Rise is a safe crèche for village children aged 1-5 years, offering a space to learn, play, and eat while developing their emotional, social, cognitive, and motor skills through play-based and environmentally focused activities.
Run by Nourish Eco Village—which connects conservation efforts with community challenges like poverty, low education, food insecurity, and unemployment—the program believes that nurturing happy, healthy children who respect nature is essential for preserving wild spaces.
