This month, Breathe Africa Travel embarked on an unforgettable journey into the heart of Rwanda along with our repeat guests, The Jacksons. Where we explored the beauty of Volcanoes National Park and the exceptional hospitality of Kataza House by Singita together.
Nestled on the edge of one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions, Kataza House offered us a rare blend of ultra-luxury, eco-conscious design, and profound cultural connection. Every detail of the stay was a celebration of Rwandan craftsmanship, from the locally woven textiles to the contemporary art that tells stories of resilience and renewal.

The highlight of our trip, of course, was the mountain gorilla trekking – a humbling and intimate encounter with one of the world’s most endangered primates.
We hiked through misty bamboo forests and lush volcanic terrain, eventually coming face to face with these majestic creatures. It was an experience that left us all speechless and reminded us why sustainable tourism matters more than ever.

At Kataza House, wellness and conservation go hand in hand. Whether it was enjoying a farm-to-table meal overlooking the hills, meditating to the sounds of the forest, or learning about local conservation initiatives, every moment felt intentional. Breathe Africa Travel is proud to support properties like Singita that align with our values- prioritising both community empowerment and environmental stewardship.
Rwanda, with its warm people and extraordinary landscapes, has truly left its mark on us. If you’re seeking a journey that stirs the soul and changes your perspective, let us take you there.

I said goodbye to our guests at Kigali airport and they continued to Zimbabwe to visit Singita’s Pamushana.
This was their second visit to Pamashana which they were happy to once again embrace the spirit of the Southern African wilderness with open hearts and deep appreciation.
One of the main reasons for their return was the incredible staff. Their presence brought a wonderful energy to the lodge, and it was a joy to share the beauty of the Malilangwe Reserve with them – from unforgettable wildlife sightings of lions, leopards, wild dogs, black rhino and rare sable antelope, to peaceful sunsets on the boat, their visit was a heartfelt reminder of the special connections formed in this unique corner of Zimbabwe.
Written by Kristy Jackson who along with her parents travelled with us to Rwanda and Zimbabwe. – who we had such fun traveling with.
“After previous, incredible trips, we reached out to Breathe Africa to plan a gorilla trekking adventure in Rwanda, followed by a safari in Zimbabwe.
Breathe Africa coordinated beautiful lodging in both locations at Singita properties (Kataza House in Rwanda and Pamushana in Zimbabwe), which provide stellar service and are second-to-none with respect to food, wine, and luxury amenities.
Breathe Africa ensured that we were well prepared for our gorilla trek in Rwanda by providing detailed packing lists and background materials before we left the US. Breathe Africa also provided suggestions and information about logistics like the use and availability of porters and the critical role of trackers. Hiking at altitude to see gorillas is different than a typical safari: however, Breathe Africa’s guidance and expertise made us comfortable about what to expect and that preparation contributed to our enjoyment of the experience.
Breathe Africa’s suggestion to link stays at two Singita properties was brilliant because it provided a continuity of experience not always realized when you visit different lodges. On the ground, Breathe Africa made every transport seamless and ensured that we were looked after at every turn, both in Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Breathe Africa made it easy to combine gorilla trekking and safari. We cannot recommend Breathe Africa’s thoughtful and professional service more and we are already in talks about planning a return trip.”

Breathe Africa Travel is so excited to gift our guests with handcrafted candles made by Slowveld Candles, who are our neighbours here in the Kruger National Park. These candles are a beautiful reminder of their journey and connection to Africa.

Each candle is locally created using natural soy wax as the warm with the earthy scent of beechwood to fill your space. We want this candle to evoke the memories of your travels as you searched for those lions on the game drive or that time that you stopped for a drink while you watched the sun set.
